Obviously there is never any excuse for someone slipping something into a person’s drink without their knowledge or permission and anyone who does so is disgusting.
It is incredibly dangerous though to simply forgive Ty for his actions.
What is important to remember in this situation though is that no amount of drugs or alcohol in Ty’s system (whether he put them there or not) excuses the fact that he and his actions made multiple people feel unsafe. In addition, this is not the first convention that Ty has been more than inappropriate in his interactions with fans. This has been an ongoing problem at other conventions this past year. Even ignoring his actions this past weekend, his attitude towards women and his behaviour in the past is enough to warrant serious discussion. I hope at the very least that this incident will encourage people to be aware of the risks in accepting drinks from strangers (for example the people that drank from flasks and bottles passed around before karaoke started friday).
If he truly believes that he had so little control over his actions that he was literally unable to realize that he was making people uncomfortable and scared, I am truly thankful that Creation stepped in.
It is important that we have a serious discussion about how to prevent situations like this from happening again. Not just in the case of being aware and cautious of people who may try to slip something into a drink or similar, but also being aware of what is proper fan/creator interaction and how to prevent people from feeling unsafe or uncomfortable in situations like these.
